Social Media Strategy Not Working? Consider a Reboot

By Joshua Stewart

With 2025 starting in just a few short weeks, now is the time businesses are reflecting on the previous 12 months and planning their social media marketing strategies for the upcoming year. If used correctly, social media can spread brand awareness, develop a sense of community, and, of course, generate new business.

If these results aren’t being seen, it might be time to reboot the social media strategy as a whole. The following is a deepdive on what a social media reboot is and why it isn’t something to be afraid of.

What is a social media reboot?

A social media reboot is a chance to completely rethink, revamp, and refresh a company’s social media identity. It is a chance to start a page from scratch, but using what you learned from previous social media strategies to come back better than ever.

All posts made up to the point of the reboot are archived away from public access. This sounds scary, but remember, only the posts are archived, not the followers.

When should you consider a social media reboot?

Companies choose to do social media reboots for any number of reasons. Maybe there is a disconnect between the brand they are portraying on social media and the actual brand of the company. Maybe they simply aren’t getting the visibility they hoped for when starting on social media. Essentially, if a company isn’t seeing the wanted results, a social media reboot could be beneficial.

What social media trends should companies keep in mind going forward?

Social media is constantly evolving which means a company’s social media strategy needs to evolve with it. The following are some social media trends to consider for the upcoming year:

  • In-house influencers and creators: Having familiar faces gives the audience a sense of community. It’s completely fine to not have the most popular content creators promoting a company. The key is to have a consistent face for the audience to engage with.
  • Video content in king: In order to stay relevant, a social media strategy should consist of both short and long-form video posts, not just still images and text.
  • TikTok is HOT…for now: Given the popularity of video content, it is no surprise that TikTok is the platform for companies to be on right now. That being said, there will always be a new platform to come along and it is important to adopt them quickly.
  • Engage with the audience: In order to retain and gain followers, companies need to engage with them. Like and respond to their comments. Share their stories. Don’t be afraid to ask what kind of content they want to see. This creates a sense of community rather than a strictly business/consumer relationship.

Conclusion

The social media landscape is constantly changing and it can be tough for a company to create the perfect social media strategy. If the wanted results aren’t being seen, a social media reboot, though seemingly daunting, may be the right thing to do.

Start from scratch with the knowledge of what didn’t work. Follow trends to stay relevant. Engage with followers. In time, the ideal social media strategy will be found and business will be better than ever.
